23 Feb Mandolin Orange at Park City Live
Instead of spending Valentine’s Day being romantic at a fancy restaurant with my guy, we spent it listening to Mandolin Orange at Park City Live (fancy snacks came afterward at Butcher’s).
My first experience with Mandolin Orange was last year in Park City, when I saw them open for (my one true love) Gregory Alan Isakov at O.P. Rockwell across the street. If the the North Carolina duo were good then they were spectacular this time around.
Emily Frantz and Andrew Marlin opened for The Infamous String Dusters with a beautiful set. Their sound isn’t quite bluegrass but has enough Black Mountain in it to be something other than straight folk. You’re bound to fall in love with their beautiful harmonies. Both Emily and Andrew are multi-instrumentalists and she, in particular, kills on the fiddle.
My personal favorites were ‘Old Ties and Companions’ from their newest album Such Jubilee and ‘Waltz about Whiskey’ from their 2013 album This Side of Jordan. Can’t wait to see these guys again.
Also, Bryan bought me the softest, most comfortable sweatshirt of all time from the M.O. merch table. I have yet to go a day without putting it on.
